When disaster strikes, women and children are among the most vulnerable. As such, ACTED has been working to provide gender-sensitive emergency relief services to women and girls affected by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti. ACTED’s field teams participate in distributing urgently needed items (including food, hygiene kits, tarps and blankets, water filters), reconstruction efforts, and work to protect vulnerable families from abuse, neglect, and violence.
Fondation CHANEL partnered with ACTED to develop a gender-sensitive response to the disaster in Haiti. As such, ACTED has expanded its operations to reach very vulnerable women in the Southern part of the island, who were not included in initial international relief programs. Furthermore, ACTED is working to raise awareness to prevent gender-based violence and to protect and support women who have been victims of violence.
Since 1993, as an international NGO, ACTED has been committed to immediate humanitarian relief to support those in urgent need and protect people’s dignity, while co-creating longer-term opportunities for sustainable growth and fulfilling people’s potential. ACTED has been supporting vulnerable communities in Haiti since 2004.
