A group of funders have created a pop-up fund to provide assistance to girl-led groups during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim is to distribute grants to 120 associations, as well as offer mentorship and capacity building initiatives. The project will also involve monitoring and evaluation, with a focus on collecting evidence of the impact of COVID on girls, conducting a qualitative analysis on how the funding contributed to change and assessing the efficiency of the rapid response funding platform.
Supporting young women in identifying their own needs and developing effective solutions, especially in an emergency situation, allows them to find their own voice and become change actors in society. By providing resources to this fund, Fondation CHANEL will be able to support multiple girl-led grassroots groups to organise and sustain their work through and beyond the pandemic.
Purposeful, a movement-building hub for adolescent girls, was set up in 2016 in response to the Ebola crisis in West Africa. With a track record in emergency response funding, it aims to amplify girls’ voices, resource their activities and build solidarity across movements.
