Taking its cue from the needs expressed by grassroots leaders in Englewood, the Chicago Foundation for Women is taking a place-based and holistic approach to women’s economic security through the Englewood Women’s Initiative. They have convened a strategic alliance of 7 local organizations who are collaboratively working to strengthen the economic security of women and their children. Their joint strategies will put more than 60 female headed households on a path to sustainable income, defined as more than $40,000 a year.
Fondation CHANEL will support the Englewood Women’s Initiative in continuing to convene a network of agencies addressing a wide spectrum of women’s needs, including affordable childcare and housing, domestic violence services and credit building, job skills training and small business support, plus a rigorous cohort evaluation.
This project involves 7 grassroots organizations, whose expertise ranges from domestic violence prevention and recovery, job readiness and security, and education completion. The group is coordinated by the Chicago Foundation for Women, a leader in equal opportunities for women in the Chicago area.
